Birth control did what?...

Women's pursuit towards equality has been a long and challenging journey Even to this day women struggle with many different types of misogynistic pre-conceived notions on a day to day bases. One of these struggles include women wanting a voice in our government.

Women have slowly gained this voice in our government over centuries of hard work. Thousands of women are trying to even out the playing field in current offices. Ever since women have gained the fundamental right to vote they have worked in multiple levels of government. Women have taken the role as secretaries of state, vice presidential candidates, presidential candidates, and even supreme court justice holders. Being able to vote and hold office as a woman was not always an option at the beginning.

The women's suffrage movement was a step towards a more equal government for women. This was a very important movement that occurred between 1890 and 1920. The Seneca falls convention was a first step in this broad and continuous fight for the right to vote. One of the more influential passageways during this time period for women was a debate over birth control. Birth control pushed women to the forefront of free speech. Women were so devoted in working that they wanted to control the number of pregnancies they had so that they could work. Being pregnant made it hard to hold down a job. With this came the invention known as birth control. The invention of this pill was such a radical idea that it lead to women being imprisoned and even deported. The Birth control movement brought together ever social class among women. It gave all women a sense of belonging. Because of the increase in social social movements this  lead women to electoral politics. It is true that women were voting before the 19th amendment since it was a state issue and many western states allowed women to vote. The state also allowed women to run in office.
Even after the 19th amendment the lives of women did not change for a while and it did not immediately change the roles of women in the social order as wives and mothers so why did women go through all these obstacles just to still be seen as wives and mother's?

Well the author  by the name of Charlie Perkins Gilman in the book women and economics said “Having a job is valuable in the sense of the independence it brings and in the form of self expression”. This was such a true and valid statement in what women wanted in that time. Having more economic and political changes and having a greater sense of freedom is what changed the way women think and how they gained control in what they wanted.
